For those of you that didn’t catch my recent Facebook Live video on my Costco hacks, I’ve outlined some of the content I covered below. Read on (or watch) for my list of organic and healthier option Costco hacks that are easy on your budget!

1) Organic Chicken Breasts

We all know how expensive shopping for organic meat is these days. I buy my chicken (organic) from Costco and it comes in packs that you can easily freeze for later. Did I mention they are only $5.99/lb?! If you buy a lot of meat (in this case, chicken specifically) then this could definitely be worth a Costco membership in and of itself!

2) Organic Unsweetened Almond Milk

In our house, we don’t drink dairy milk. If you try to keep dairy minimal in your house as we do, then almond milk is a great alternative to cow’s milk. The great thing about this milk is it it has a great shelf life and can be stored on your shelf for months.

3) Organic Oatmeal Dark Chocolate Bars (Heavenly Hunks)

This is one of my favorite guilty pleasure nighttime snacks. Not the healthiest thing to eat, but a healthier option if you have a sweet tooth like me!

4) Garden Lites Blueberry Oat Muffins

This is my favorite morning breakfast snack when I’m running late in the morning. These muffins are made with veggies and taste great when you heat them up in the microwave! Keep in mind this is a healthier OPTION, not the healthiest option for a snack.

5) Raos Tomato Sauce

Most sauces have lots of added sugar, and unless you’re making yours from scratch, this is a great less-sugary alternative. The great thing about getting it from Costco is that you normally find the price of one for the price of TWO at Costco (about $11.99).

6) Avocado Spray

Avocado spray is great to get from Costco because it is generally cheaper. The reason I like using avocado spray when cooking is because it has a higher burning point than oils like olive oil and vegetable oil and therefore won’t produce harmful carcinogens when frying things in a pan (you also won’t get gross smoke in your face).

7) Almond Butter (Kirkland)

If you’ve ever shopped for almond butter, you know how expensive this is at the grocery store for just a tiny container of it. I suggest picking this up at Costco because it’s MUCH bigger and it costs about $9!

Also, almond butter pro hack: if you don’t like the oil that comes to the top of the container in almond butter, flip it upside down when you put it away to avoid the oil at the top! 🙂

8) Almond Flour (Kirkland)

Any grocery store you go to, you’ll find that almond flour is preeetttty expensive. Costco has it at a decent price for a 3 lb bag and it is a great gluten-free alternative to regular flour.

9) Zero Calorie Sweetener (Eryrithritol & Monk Fruit)

This is a great alternative sweetener (especially if you are doing the keto diet). It comes in a nice big bag and price at Costco vs if you went to Whole Foods or another grocery store.

In Summary

Shopping for food can be expensive, especially nowadays with the pandemic situation causing high prices for a ton of things we buy on a daily basis. If you are shopping for a family, that adds another level of expenses, too. I put this video/blog post together in the hopes to help you save a little bit of money, while also helping provide some healthy alternatives and helpful hacks!

I share nutrition tips like this and more with many of my patients as part of our chiropractic care plans. If you’re curious about the benefits and options of our care plans, contact us today to learn more.
